A quick Q10 camera test

After a couple of days of messing about with the phone, I thought with the arrival of some sunshine, maybe it was time to give the camera a field test.

So without further discussion, here goes.

First up some simple shots.

The pairs of pictures are examples of HDR vs standard camera pictures. I am torn between them. Sometimes the HDR over corrects the image to almost make it too even. See what you think.

More detailed blog to follow about the camera soon. But for now, enjoy the first of the bunch.

First full battery cycle on the Q10

Well after coming off a nice long charge at 8am this morning, and tolerating ten hours of almost full on use, the battery is finally coming to an end.
Over an hour of calls, NFC transfers, Wifi connection as well as 3G, browsing the net, BBM, Whatsapp, bogging lots, taking pictures and videos, and whatever else I could do with it to challenge it and get to know my Q10 a little better.

I have just enough juice left to pop this little entry up, before it dies totally and gets its first full charge from completely flat. Then the true test begins I guess.

So, not a bad run for its first go, it's certainly taken some abuse.
I should point out that the Z also came off charge at the same time and is now down to 6%, with far less use today than usual. Not sure if the signal has been a problem here today, but both on the same network.

Right, before it dies, I'm done.

Blackberry Q10 audio options

In my brief mini review earlier I mentioned premium headphones and the BlackBerry wireless speaker system, but I just realised I didn't post images of either, so here you are.

First up the very funky, tiny bit fiddly and totally good quality 'premium' headphones.
Main cool think about them is their anti-tangle wires. Previously found on headphones bundled with things like the HTC, any one familiar with anti-tangle will know just how much time they can save when pulling them from your pocket screwed up in a ball.
I have used these before in the form of A-Jays 3's, and have to say I am totally sold on anti tangles forever now.
The concept is simple, as pictured the wires are flat, so don't tie themselves up into a ball of tangled wire like conventional ones do.
Quality wise, they fit the ear beautifully once you have decided which ear bud to use. 3 to choose from, two with different sized loops, designed to squash then expand in the outer part of the ear to ensure a snug fit. Or the third option is no loop, so the bud sits gently inside the ear.
Sound is nice, anyone expecting super sharp tops, or deep bass will be disappointed. But if you grabbed a load of standard bundled headphones from BlackBerry of the past, and other devices, I'm pretty confident these would come out very near the top at worst.

Then we have the previously mentioned BlackBerry wireless bluetooth speaker. First up, a handy light little package, which is charged up using the same micro usb charger as the mainstream phones of the world, Inc the BlackBerry's. It's folded hinge design makes it great to clip on to bag chest straps, sun visors, or other thin layers of material, holding it firmly in place for whichever use you have in mind for it.
Very simple to sync up to, easy to discover via bluetooth settings, and can be up and running literally in one minute from taking it out of the box.
Volume buttons hidden away on the underside allow you to control the volume from the speaker itself, or indeed from the device that is streaming the audio. Also on the side is the power switch. A simple on/off slide back and forth style switch, complete with multi coloured LED.
Using different colours to tell you what's going on. Flashing rather than static LED, green showing on charge, blue connected via bluetooth, and red when powering on and off, or sitting on but idle.
Smartly (but maybe obviously) it will also multi indicate, so blue/green flashes to show its on charge but connected etc.
Sound quality, well it's a free standing small speaker unit, so don't expect ground shaking bass or anything. But the sound that does come out it pleasant, clear and nice to listen to. More for casual poolside or beach use, or just chilling in the park, rather than being the centre of a party.
A second use is to use it in the car as a handsfree speaker. Obviously the lack of a mic means it's not going to do the job all alone. But anyone who has tried using the handsfree on most phones will find that once you turn the volume up enough to hear the person, in a car on the motorway for example, the sound quality is lost, and conversation becomes hard.
With this little gem on your sun visor, you can be sure the conversation would be crystal clear.

And here it is, complete with a hand to demonstrate the size of the unit.

Welcome to the Blackberry Q10

A long time in the making, but finally its here and I have to say, 1 hour in, MY GOD its good!

I have to say this first though, getting the handset has been a bloody nightmare to say the least, fighting with Yodel to get them to deliver the damn thing has kind of tainted the joy of getting it.
There is more about the epic battle in earlier blog entries.

So back to the Q10.
First up, it's fair to say I am a die hard qwerty fan, and a strong believer that the days of the physical keyboard are far from over. In fact for me, as the past hour has shown, it's a must. Plain and simple.
The Z10 has without a doubt been the best touchscreen phone I have ever used. No bones about it, the fluidity of the experience is amazing. But after months of use I still never overcame the annoyance and frustration of the keyboard predicting or correcting me on something simple, or the sheer inaccuracy of it. YES, touchscreen can be super fast, the Z is no exception, with its very forgiving predictive text and corrections. As well as a very smart learning curve, which unlike any other handset I have used, can predict almost who sentences.

However, when it comes to freedom of expression and being able to type what you want, how you want, and make words up whenever you choose, the qwerty wins every time.

So, step back a second and let's start over.
Buying mine from CPWH, I was lucky enough to get the BlackBerry bluetooth speaker system for free, which is a nice little bonus. Compact little thing, but great for sitting in the garden or office etc. I can see it getting a fair bit of use. Also doubles as a hands free for the car too as it clips to the sun visor, so win win.

Unpacking the Q10's little retail box, you realise that BlackBerry have followed the lead of brands like Apple, and made their retail offerings very sparce, but I have to be fair and say all the essentials are there. Phone, charger, data cable, headphones. Speaking of headphones, what an enormous leap forwards with the quality of headphones BlackBerry have made. In-ear anti-tangle headphones, great inline controls. Brilliant, well done BlackBerry. Not sure about Apples 'years in the making' effort, but these unannounced surprises are a great addition.

Moving on from audio, setting the phone up was a nice simple process, certainly more user friendly than the first time around with the Z10, what a nightmare that was. But then at the same time the process is nothing like device swaps of the past. Gone are the days of any BIS involvement. Simple on screen prompts put you through the various sections of set up in an easy to understand format. Once done, and all emails are set up, it syncs with the server and in a matter of minutes you are up and running. The key here is being cloud ready. If you are on Gmail etc, then the set up is a piece of cake, pulling down contacts and calendars from your online account. Second time is a treat for me for sure.

Once set up, it's time to get going with customising and setting up your preferences. The defaults are pretty well thought out, with dark theme as standard, various tones set up for native apps, and volume set to maximum (yup that scared the pants off me first message!). The aforementioned native apps as you probably know are a lot about staying in touch, BBM, Linked In, Facebook, Twitter, and all meeting up nicely in the infamous Hub. Speaking of the hub, for me it's still not perfect, but after months of use of the Z10, BB10 has become second nature, and interacting from one place is indeed a great idea. Just a shame there are not a few more user customisable options in there.

The biggest thing missing for me is the social feeds, all my Twitter updates and new tweets. But again I have to say I have grown used to Blaq saving the say there, and have been quick to install it on the Q10 as well as the Z.

The biggest joy of all is without a doubt the keyboard, for me at least. Firm, solid keys, my fingers dance around the keyboard with ease, and as they start to remember what is where, the speed of my typing increases. I have already surpassed the longest blog entry I have ever done on the Z, by double at least I would say, and I'm happy to keep going. No frustrations, just happy thinking and typing away. The straightening out of the keyboard is a little peculiar  maybe, but again you adjust quickly. Sitting in the dark, looking around as I type, I know my accuracy is far better than a touchscreen would ever be, for me at least.

The glass weave, weird looking back was a big worry for me, thinking it was going to be slippery as the back of the 9900 was, but looks are truly deceiving. And to think I almost went for a white Q10 because the back looked gripper. Phew close call there. It's waxy in feel, and has the right level of grip. Not being shiny also removes the worry of scratching it. The feel of the rest of the device is also decidedly solid and robust. No unpleasant creeks or squeeks coming from the chassis.

The screen is super sharp as you would expect from an OLED display. With screens improving year after year, it's hard to appreciate the screen until I sit it next to my other two handsets, then the difference is very apparent. With one of those being the Z10, it doesn't take a genius to work out which BB10 device has the nicer screen.

The rest of the story is yet to be told, battery testing, app testing, reliability, and over all preference of use (although I think I have already decided that one)

A final note though, and one for anyone trying to decide which BlackBerry device to buy.
If you are like me, and you spend most of your day emailing, messaging, tweeting etc, aka communicating with your phone, then the Q is the obvious choice. I know the argument is screen real estate, but the truth is, with the onscreen keyboard up, the Z's screen is exactly the same size as the Q.
If however you use your handset for games, Web, navigation etc, then the Z is probably the right option for you. The onscreen keyboard as an occasional input device is truly splendid. Forgiving, intuitive, and easy to get along with. Word suggestions, swipe gestures and great layout make it a pleasing experience. But would I have written a blog entry like this one on the Z.... Jeez no! Only the Q has what it takes to ramble on for hours in my trying to be helpful manner.

I shall be sure to post some updates soon, but for now I will give this poor new phone a breather.

Summary, now the chips are down, BlackBerry have brought TWO awesome phones to the market. Worth the extended wait for sure, now just to keep up the momentum and make and keep the BB10 movement current. Well done BlackBerry, well done indeed.

Dear Yodel, poor confused Yodel

Firstly let me say, thank you to the guys from Yodel on Twitter, for making things happen, shooting from the hip and just being down to earth. Without your input today I would be fuming.
So lets get to the fun part.

Last night I tweeted, blogged and Facebooked my frustrations about a failed delivery, which was eventually scanned as an incomplete or unusable address. The call centre told me in no uncertain terms that the soonest the package could go back out was Friday. I was NOT happy and vented this by complaints of many forms to Yodel.

This morning, first thing I get a tweet from Yodel asking if they can help, 30 mins and a few messages later and I am assured the package is going back out for delivery, and am told the time the package was scanned onto the van. 09.52. And indeed it shows on the online tracking as just that.

02/05/201309:52Parcel with courier, its on its way!

So, with this in mind, and knowing I am still pretty much housebound anyway, I relaxed a bit.
You can imagine my confusion when I then received an email from Yodel customer services in response to my rather sarcastic email from yesterday evening, stating the following....

Please accept my sincere apologies that you have had cause to contact Yodel regarding your delivery.
I have looked on our system that states you called around 7.30pm yesterday evening to re-book your delivery, unfortunately our cut of time for re-deliveries is 4.30pm therfore the nearest available day would be Friday as advised by the adviser you spoke to.
This email was sent at 10.24, a full 30 mins AFTER the package had been sorted and scanned onto a van for delivery TODAY. Naturally a rather sarcastic reply was sent questioning the accuracy of the information in the email. What this says to me is that the person replying to the email didn't really look into the matter at all, but just grabbed a few bits of information, took a guess and replied with lip service not customer service.

Had they looked into the matter properly they would also have noted that the call was connected at EIGHT thirty, not 7 as stated in the email, that was of course after being on hold for 30 mins. At my expense I should add as apparently..... I quote..

With reference to compensation for calls, Im afraid that this falls under the category of consequential loss and as a company Yodel do not cover this. We strive to ensure that all our customers receive excellent service and I realise that on this occasion you feel it was not achieved.
So in short...

Yodels drivers will lie when they cant be bothered to try and deliver a package, and state that the address was wrong.
When the address on the package is confirmed as correct by a call centre agent on the phone, they will then in turn suggest access to the house was not possible, or that the road is small and not on a map. And that it will take TWO days to get the package back out for delivery,
When you email customer services to complain about the whole matter, the agent will simply fabricate a call time, ignore the comments made about getting it back out for delivery THE NEXT DAY, and instead say SAME day reattempt is not possible. Finally stating that it  WILL take 2 days, and the 30 mins on hold is for you to pay for.

THEN.... You speak briefly in under 140 characters to a helpful bunch at @YodelOnline via Twitter, and they sort the whole matter out, get it back out for delivery, and are polite and honest in the process.

Thanks again to the small contingent of Yodel staff who are actually helpful. As for the rest.. Karma gonna get ya!

Right..... now wheres my bloody package ! Haha

Yodel, you complete and utter joke!

To say I have had a bad experience with YODEL the delivery company today is pretty much an understatement. The only saving grace is that I am off work sick today, or I would have in fact just wasted a whole day of my life waiting for a package that was destined NEVER to show up. Of course it wasn't, Yodel were dealing with it, what was I expecting.

My new phone ordered from the CarphoneWarehouse was dispatched yesterday, and the online tracking began, ending with ...
01/05/201320:01Parcel returned to delivery depot
The reason for this, apparently my postal address of 30+ years was a little too complex for someone along the line to cope with, so they just took the package out for delivery, drove around South London with it since 10am, finally decided they didn't know where SE23 was, and scanned it to say the address was inadequate. The tracking screen updated an hour later to say it was back at the depot.

So I called the call centre.... and waited...... and waited, oh and errm waited some more. THIRTY minutes later I finally got through, and after a long discussion about how hard it is to walk up my drive way, or why a courier would not know where the road was, it was agreed it would be redelivered.... ON FRIDAY !!

FFS are you kidding me, its gonna take them 2 days to get the package back out to me, im not allowed to get someone to pick it up for me, and they can only give a 12 hour delivery window.

At least I know a rough idea of why they are called YODEL now. Its either the method of communication between customers and customer service, or the sound the thoughts make as they travel across the vast expanses between some of their staffs ears.

I shall leave you with my email to Yodel.

I have waited patiently all day for a package to arrive and watched as it was updated to received at depot, til out for delivery. Finally at 8pm it updates to say its back at the depot.
On calling your call centre and spending 30 mins on hold, I finally got through to someone and was told the courier was unable to find my postal address. I should point out at this point that I too work for a large international courier service, and know our drivers would never take out a package which they thought the address was incorrect or incomplete on.
So why is it this courier in question has spent all day with the package with a perfectly good address and postcode on, only to claim it was inadequate? And now to rub salt in the wounds I am told I can neither collect it, nor have it reattempted until Friday, and even then its a 12 hour delivery window.
I have a job to go to, I have a life to live, and I now have a rather large phone bill as I had to join the end of a VERY long queue of people probably with similar comments and complaints as myself, waiting to speak to someone at the call centre.
So, can I collect this package and save someone the painful task of trying to navigate across the vast, open, confusing to navigate wilderness also known as South London, or can someone armed with a medieval artefact know as a map manage to deliver it before Friday.
Im not quite sure why it would take 48 hours to turn a package back around and out for delivery again.
This has been a totally ridiculous chain of events, and in turn deserved nothing less that a ridiculously sarcastic email to complain about the service.
Quite simply, can someone please arrange for this package to be delivered, properly and before Friday. And a refund for the call cost would be quite delightful.
Regards

'Are you the blogger'

This was my greeting this morning from two guys outside the illusive 6 Church Rise this morning. A little startled I cautiously confessed I do indeed blog, and blog about this site.
Strange opening over with, and the introductions made, it became apparent I had finally met the developer of  the site. So perfectly timed too, with the project coming to an end. So with that in mind, I thought it was time to do another little blog about the place.

First up, lets look back a bit, 2007 and Earlsfield Estates started what would turn out to be a doomed project. Having not lived next door to a site of such size before I didnt know what to expect, but as the weeks passed one this was apparent, it wasnt going very well. Late 2007 the scales tipped and the house begun to collapse, and that is where the real journey started.
By the end of 2007 the house was surrounded by structural scaffolding, pumped full of concrete and looking very sorry for itself.
Here are a couple of pictures of its journey to becoming a clear site again.

Excuse the photoshopped arrow, but this is the day it all started to happen. I have an archive full of these pictures somewhere, but speaking to the developers today inspired me to dig a couple out. This was a very sad and scary day for those of us living near by.

The following year, once all the concrete was set and all the safety checks had been made, it was time for 100 years of history to be wiped from the street forever. Here it is a little way in.

Needless to say, a LOT has changed since these pictures were taken, and a lot has happened in between 2007 and now in 2013.

I will keep this brief, and try and avoid sounding too biased, but I have to say. Apart from a few scares and moments of confusion about what was going on, it has been a pleasure seeing the resurection of 6 Church Rise. With all the worries about how the hell the tonnes of concrete would be removed, to how the finished product would look, I have to say as the final few days of work are done on the place, its looking amazing. Never did I imagine that the replacement for a beautiful Victorian house would fit in so well, while being so well executed.

How it looks now is great, and with the invite to have a nose around inside being issued, I cant resist but seeing how things are looking inside too. The view of the street from my house restored after many years, its almost like the end of a prison sentence, and one I should impress was NOT imposed by the current developers, but more by the greedy and poor attitudes of Earlsfield Estates.

So a few pics of the new place will wrap this brief blog up nicely. To anyone viewing this due to researching with the view to buy. I have seen this place built from ground up and not a single corner has been cut, and I am really not as nosey to live next door to as it might seem, I have just been immersed in the whole building process... Honest :)

Living in 'poverty'

OK so a lot has happened over recent days and even hours now which has made me a little mad, and as it all boils up inside of me, what better way to deal with it than a blog / rant.
So whats this topic that is eating away at me, whats this thing that drives me mad. I will tell you what it is, benefits and certain peoples beliefs.

Lets start with the basics here, the UK has a 'great' benefits system which covers many areas other countries do not support you on, hell some countries dont even have benefits, end of! We have the NHS, whilst not a benefit, it is OF benefit, and often forgotten when comparing ourselves o other countries. We dont have to worry about the cost of the dentist, or seeing a doctor, high priced medications etc, good ol' NHS has that covered for us.

So lets now look at the other bits, the main ones that cause so much trouble. Housing benefits, income support, unemployment benefits and other such things. First up, they are called benefits, but seem to be misinterpreted as some sort of right or gift. Wrong, its to support you, help you survive, help you get by. Benefits as badly named as they are, were introduced to give people going through hard times a chance, a foot up, and keep them afloat until the next form of income came along.  Not to become a lifestyle or a choice. They were seen as a necessary evil, a little bit embarrassing, and something you wanted on and off asap.
Over the years these things have become exploited, landlords upping their rents in the private sector, taking advantage of the lack of affordable housing, driving ,monthly housing benefit claims through the roof, in some cases way over £1000 a month, and in exceptional circumstances much much more. People have found ways to work very lucrative scams, working full time for cash or under a different name, and claiming all the benefits they can. In some cases even pretending to be single parents to get the maximum benefits they can, while in fact living together and one being in a well paid job.

The time has come to start stamping all over this culture, and make a change. A change that has been called for over and over during many governments, but all have failed. Now that we are gripped in deep recession, and have a government who have the balls to go head on into a battle of the benefits, there is outcry. How will people live on so little, how can people be so blinkered to believe you can survive on £X a week.
Today a little tussle started after I dared to post to Facebook a comment about this, and it got me thinking. Daring to comment on it, somehow I felt that some people didnt feel I was qualified to comment in such a way. So lets do this, lets take a walk down memory lane with Uncle Snaz, and see some good old fashioned home truths.

I was born in 1973 to a single mum, living in a tiny one bedroom flat in Sydenham, South London. Growing up I dont remember too many perks.  No games consoles, a black and white television, eventually. (for those who dont know, TV's were not always colour you know!! ;) ) School dinners were not something to be angry about or moan about, they were my one and only balanced meal of the day. The evening would sometimes see exciting things like toasted burger buns with tomato sauce. Snacks, sweets, crisps were pretty much a fantasy, and only came about when friends parents treated us all, or the nice neighbours took us for trips to the sweet shop.
Holidays were quite simple, twice a year we would travel to North Wales at my aunts expense to stay with them, and live a life of what I can only explain as luxury. I should say that by todays standards that 'luxury' is nothing more than what people 'expect' as a standard of living. I can still remember that a few weeks before going we would live even more below the breadline as mum saved up the pages in her benefits books, to try and maintain some dignity and support us while we stayed with her sisters.

Going to school was fun, being one of the few from a broken home, wearing a uniform that was purchased annually with ILEA clothing vouchers, and if I was REALLY lucky there was enough for a pair of trousers to play out in. As I say school dinners were much appreciated. Hell even school milk was nice to have. Talking of clothing, I still remember my first and only football kit. Every boy needs one, its his right of passage. What did I get, who did I support. Well I think I liked West Ham at the time, but got a Crystal Palace kit as it was cheap, and the only one mum could afford.

As the years passed at school and school journey's became an option to most, the simply became a pipe dream and a letter that I would bring home, and mum would cross through the WILL, leaving the WILL NOT be attending exposed, sealing my fate on that trip. Towards the end of primary school we finally moved from out 1 bedroom place to a 3 bedroom place in Forest Hill, where I still live to this day, and am grateful an feel blessed for what we were given. Carpets and a lot of furniture would have to wait, there simply wasnt the money for it. But a year or so later I got to go on a school trip. A few days to the wild, the amazing, the ever so distant, the exotic... Hindhead in Surrey. The Devils Punchbowl!

Are you getting the picture yet? No fancy toys, no pushbike, 50p pocket money as I reached 10ish. Still no colour TV, that would not come until I was 16 and had my own job, and even that would be rented from Granada for years. Winters with the heating in the house turned to OFF, fashionable clothing WAY out of reach. Once I reached secondary school mum could finally claw back her dignity, and get a job, working at the local Sainsburys. A job considered a little below some I went to school with, but it meant we could start eating real meals, and really start to have a life, but it remained pretty humble.

When I reached 15 and 3/4 I did some work experience, decided school was boring and took a full time job, and started earning. I truly have not looked back since. Taking any job I can and sticking at it through thick and thin, my only time out of work was my decision and was for the first few months of my daughters life. Something that is too precious to miss if you can afford it. Almost 25 years later I look back and pat my younger self on the back for the decision I made. No exams, but no excuses, which is more than I can say for some I grew up with.

See this social dependency isn't a new thing, its not a new generation being lazy. Its repeat generations being lazy, bone idle and too afraid to lift a finger to earn. Relinquishing the chance of a worth while life, and instead choosing to claim what they honestly believe they are entitled to. Maybe its the language that is all wrong, 'benefits', 'entitled', 'owed'... What the hell. When I was 16 I caught chickenpox and had to take 2 weeks off work. I got NOTHING for that time off as I hadn't worked for my employer long enough, and hadn't paid enough NI. These days people will smash up a benefits office for less!

This money is there to SURVIVE on, not live on. So before saying its not enough, its not fair, its hardship, take a look around you. Computers, mobile phones, cars, large flat screen TV's , Sky subscriptions, pets, expensive lifestyles, drinking and smoking habits and addictions, heating on 24/7. Benefits are not meant to pay for ANY of these things, let alone holidays, designer clothes, or the latest washing machine.  Food, roof, warmth, existence, THATS IT!

I of course realise that there is a fair percentage that works hard for a living and earns the right to have a better life style, and in certain cases misfortune deals them a blow where for a while they are down on their luck, income drops or ceases, and suddenly they are left struggling to get by. I have been there too, having been the long term carer of my sick mum, running out of sick pay, and being left heavily in debt. I do think to a degree the benefit system lets this group down a little, but not totally. I dont think anyone expects the tax payer to keep up payments on your car, or help you maintain a luxury lifestyle while you find work. But I have to say that if it was not for all the people expecting and demanding payment because they are too lazy to work, or too dishonest to declare their income, there would be more in the pot to help the genuine people who have fallen on hard times, and just need that hand of support until they can recover.

To be honest there will never be a 'fair' benefits system, or legal system etc for that matter. There will always be the minority of dishonest and disinterested people who cant be bothered to be a part of society, and will behave in a way they choose, and not in a way which others find acceptable. Then there will always be the PC brigade backing up those poor suffering souls, and trying to make a mountain out of a molehill. Claiming things are not fair, people will suffer and more should be done. But never offering a sensible solution to the issue. A bit like every shadow government for the past 30 years.
The genuine person will always be the one who suffers for the ignorance of the others, but the genuine person  will always have the smallest voice, and the least chance. Its not fair, its not right but society allows it.

I say society and not the government as I am sick to death hearing how Blair, Brown, Thatcher, Major, Cameron etc are to blame. They are the government, you are not meant to like them. They are there to make decision based on what facts they have and chosen by us to steer this country in the right direction. B+B Brown and Blair, or Boom and Bust, which ever you which to call them, there were good times for some and bad for others, and now the worm has turned, reality has set in and the UK is broke.
Cuts are never nice, but times are hard, and the cold hard reality is things need to change. Immigration needs capping, spending needs curbing, and benefits need reform. Its not going to be pretty, its not going to be easy, and I feel for the genuine people out there affected by the changes. But the people to blame surround us daily... Society as a whole. Not the 1%, not the MP's not the bankers.

Take a long hard look at where society is right now, where is going, and what it has created.

Welcome to the UK in 2013, our creation!

I stand by every word I have written, and speak strongly from experience in many aspects. We are all entitled to our opinons, and these are mine.

FLAME ON !

Rolling with the punches

Sometimes you are never going to achieve what you set out to,  and have to accept that it will never be the reality you once hoped. Its not about giving up,  but more about compromising for the sake of sanity.

I have a few recent examples of this in my own life right now and am slowly starting to realise the right thing to do is let them go, or deal with them another way.

I like to think that I don't set out to make things awkward and complex,  but it often turns out that my expectations of others involved were far too high.

Right now, this very second I am flailing like a drowning man, so close to shore,  but just out of reach, and my cries to throw a rope go unheard or ignored.

Rising above the matters dragging me down are the only way I will stay afloat,  so that is what I am trying to do. Such simple things as the decorating of the bathroom, a clerical error on a recent bill, and keeping up to date with bills is killing me from the inside now.

So at times like this I turn to yoga, p90x and any other distractions I can find.

Im so close to the finish line right now, just a few more metres.  Must stay strong!

Don't worry, I will do it myself!

So fed up have I become with the work of some of the contractors L&Q use
that I resigned myself to just accepting whatever came next.

And quite frankly that's probably a good thing. I have just spent another
day at home for a contractor to finish decorating the bathroom. Some minor
repairs and some painting, walls, skirting and window frame.

As usual the pictures are included in the blog. Needless to say, once you
have seen them you will understand that I am just going to do it myself now.

It was booked as a 4 hour job, 3 has been spent on it. Colour had to be
changed as could not be matched, but I can live with that part. As for the
rest of the job. Quite frankly SHITE! To think it was done by a
'professional ' is quite worrying to be honest.

Window frame still a mess from the plasterer skirting behind the sink still
totally unpainted, cracked chunks of plaster painted over, damage to the
wall painted over, paint on the white ceiling, sealant painted over leaving
a nasty effect, patchy coverage of new colour, and moisture bubbles already
starting to show.

So its simple, I will get the job done myself!
I previously raised the issue of compensation with L&Q and it now seems all
the more likely I will be pursuing this.

Yours sincerely
